Strengthening workplaces through the power of giving back

18 Dec 2024

Team building, workplace morale, and giving back to the community are all values important for building better workplaces. But when combined in a meaningful way, they create lasting impact that resonates far beyond the workplace.

For four-time participant Simon Cornwell, Up All Night represents “one of the best team building exercises out there”.

His participation has very much been influenced by his employer and Up All Night Presenting Partner IGO, and has not only been an opportunity to raise vital funds to support WA families with sick kids but also to build camaraderie and enhance team dynamics.

The sense of achievement we derive as a team from completing the 42km overnight walk helps us to build a level of cohesion and collaboration.

One of the most memorable parts of the event for Simon has been the sense of solidarity that comes from walking together, particularly during the more challenging parts of the walk.

The support of my IGO teammates keep me going, even when my body is failing. The whole team looks out for each other.

This collective effort fosters teamwork and mutual support, strengthening bonds in ways you can’t in an office environment, and it’s a dynamic Simon views as incredibly valuable for workplace morale.

Being able to walk as Team IGO alongside the CEO, Ivan Vella, is both inspiring and motivational. Seeing my company continuing to support such a great cause keeps me coming back year after year.

For any organisation seeking to make a genuine difference in the community and in the workplace, Simon’s advice is simple: “Sign up. The impact you can make to families going through the toughest of times, while strengthening your own team, is something truly special."

IGO's employee participation in Up All Night has grown significantly over the years, and Simon has witnessed firsthand the benefits that result from the collective energy and sense of purpose that the event fosters among employees.

He concludes by emphasising, “It is important to remember that it is not about completing the course at whatever cost, but about standing up, taking part and giving your best for a great cause.”
